Our Alpaca Experience

It began several years ago when we were deciding how best to stock our small acreage on the outskirts of Sydney, between Penrith and Richmond. We were both still working full time, and so the animals would have to be fairly self sufficient. We wanted animals which were easy to manage and good lawn mowers, but gentle on the land and fences, and could provide us with some garden manure for our permaculture project. Alpacas gave us all of the above, as well as their wonderful soft fleeces, and some fun at the local shows. They have also produced some gorgeous little crias to entertain us and our grandchildren, who visit often. Since then, we have both retired from our paid work, relocated to Yalbraith on the Southern Tablelands, and alpacas have become our way of life.

We are small farm breeders, who  aim to produce quality coloured fleece on healthy , strong framed animals. Our youngsters are halter trained and socialized for easier handling. From time to time we have some animals for sale at reasonable prices. We  offer a husbandry service for those who don't feel equipped to handle the job themselves. We hire a well qualified and respected alpaca shearer, annually, to shear our small herd, and arrangement may be made for any stock purchased from us to attend those shearing sessions. Help with animal transport for these occasions may be arranged as well.

We are registered with the Australian Alpaca Association.

If you are interested in Alpacas, would like to know more, and would enjoy a "hands on" experience, you are welcome to contact us and arrange a visit. Ask as many questions as you like. We can give advice on most aspects of alpaca care and husbandry. There are no obligations.

Our very name, "GIAGINYE", is aboriginal for "WELCOME, GLAD TO SEE YOU."
